Vanitas is a body of works, hereby represented by a few wood sculptures of a particular expressivity, most of which were more or less accidentally self-sculptured. Some of the pieces here have been found in the woods, as left by the woodcutters, others have been recovered from old buildings as recycled material (woodworm-eaten beams). The fact is that all the pieces in this series, which opened up to me in a particular way, had already been declared dead, recyclable, waste, scrap… I have tried save them from this condition and to give them a new life as art, to present them from a totally different perspective. However, I kept my intervention down to a minimum, as against the complexity of the accidental actions and factors which have simply made the sculptures in my place. Sometimes, all I had to do was to recompose and paint the objects, while at other times, for instance, I burnt them and made the fire do the artistic work.
